The dreaded call

Hi CatFish Show friends, Bob here – I’ve cross-posted this from my blog

Cat’s parents – Thanksgiving 2006

Simon was at my mom’s overnight, giving us a chance for a rare sleep-in when the phone rang at 5-something AM. No good news ever comes with a 5AM call. In my fog, I heard Cathy say “Oh God no”.. and I instantly woke up like I had been shocked.. I ran to take her into my arms, she didn’t need to tell me what had happened – I could feel her heart breaking.

Cathy’s mom Sally left us unexpectedly early this morning, and the void could be felt almost instantly. We got Cathy on the first available flight to Florida so she can be with her dad so they can help each other through the kind of week you can only understand if you’ve lived it.

I’m staying home with Simon, hoping he doesn’t ask too many questions about his Nana.

This is going to be a long week..

My heart breaks for the three of you Cat, Bob and Simon. I know how hard moments like this can be especially when such sad events happen from a distance. Please know that our thoughts and warmest wishes are with you.

There are never ‘the right words’ but we can offer our support and demonstrate the care and respect we have for one another as podcasters and friends. Cat loves getting postcards…we all know from listening to the show, so all you Catfish fans and podcasters from around the world let’s show Cat she’s not alone as she, Bob and Simon go through this difficult time…start those postcards rolling.

With much caring, support and lots of hugs
